P744 | LIBRARY

The Library 15 Education Vessel by KND is an innovative, purpose-built floating classroom and literacy platform engineered to bring educational resources to remote riverine and coastal communities. The vessel features a shallow-draft displacement hull constructed from either HDPE or aluminium, paired with a durable aluminium wheelhouse structure. Measuring 15.7 meters in length overall with a 5.07-meter beam and a remarkably shallow 0.50-meter draft, the craft operates at a maximum full-load displacement of 15,000 kg under SAMSA and ISO Standard classifications. Designed to comfortably accommodate a 4-person complement, its defining feature is a large, fully glazed, climate-controlled cabin outfitted with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, reading benches, and an open aft deck to maximize available community space.

For reliable and smooth river navigation, the vessel is powered by twin Mercury 4-Stroke outboard engines generating a combined 230 bhp. This efficient outboard propulsion setup drives the mobile library to a maximum speed of 10 knots and a steady, economical cruising speed of 8 knots. To support day-to-day operations and community visits along rural waterways, the vessel carries an onboard fuel capacity of 100 liters, paired with a 500-liter fresh water supply and a large 1,000-liter waste water tank.

The craft is optimized for self-sufficient, eco-friendly field deployment, utilizing an electrical power supply centered on a 12V DC network backed by four 200Ah batteries, a rooftop array of solar panels, and an optional shore power connection. This sustainable energy grid runs a powerful climate control network comprising two 20,000 BTU air conditioning units to protect delicate paper books and ensure a comfortable learning environment. Safe transit between remote villages is managed via a dependable navigation and safety suite that includes a Garmin GPS, VHF radio, EPIRB, magnetic compass, and standard navigation lights. For enhanced versatility, the platform can be customized with optional extras such as an integrated lifting davit, a dedicated jet ski platform, a forward sunbathing trampoline, or additional interior room modifications.
