P229 | SHADOWHAWK FMP20

The Shadowhawk 20 FMP Multipurpose Vessel by KND is a highly adaptable, multi-role naval platform engineered with an aluminium planing hull and a matching aluminium wheelhouse superstructure. Designed to serve as a modular, flexible solution for diverse coastal and offshore missions, this vessel measures 20.0 meters in length overall with a 4.0-meter beam and a 0.72-meter draft. Certified under the Grey Boat Code and Bureau Veritas (BV) classification guidelines with HPi CE proof validation, the platform handles a maximum full-load displacement of 24.18 tons.

The defining characteristic of the Shadowhawk 20 FMP is its specialized aft deck, which features a dedicated module placement zone. This configuration allows operators to rapidly swap interchangeable mission pods depending on deployment needs, including an ambulance module (as seen in the “Search & Rescue” livery), a crew module, or a cargo module fitted with an integrated deck crane (as seen in the “Pollution Control” livery). The vessel is engineered to support a substantial 20-person complement over a 3-day operational endurance baseline. This multi-day capability is supported by expansive domestic fluid capacities, including 5,720 liters of fuel, 1,500 liters of fresh water, and 420 liters of waste water storage.

To balance transit speed with heavy-payload operations, the platform features a highly agile Jet Drive propulsion arrangement offering two recommended powertrain and performance configurations:

  • Option A (1,450 hp): Utilizing twin engines delivering a combined 1,450 hp of installed power (). This setup drives the vessel to a maximum speed of 28.3 knots and a cruising speed of 22.8 knots. At cruise velocity, it maintains a fuel burn rate of 207.4 liters per hour, yielding a maximum tactical range of 567 nautical miles at an estimated displacement of 22.74 tons.

  • Option B (2,000 hp): Scaling up to a high-output powertrain delivering a combined 2,000 hp of installed power (). This configuration pushes the craft to a faster maximum speed of 32.2 knots and a cruising speed of 26.0 knots. At this cruising pace, it operates at a fuel burn rate of 286 liters per hour, delivering an operational range of 460 nautical miles at its full 24.18-ton displacement.

The ship’s extensive electronic architecture, modular utilities, and climate control systems run on a dual 230 VAC and 48 VDC power supply network. This electrical grid is heavily backed by a recommended 3,550 Ah house battery bank and a robust 11.1 kW / 13.8 kVA generator set, which runs an approximate 27,000 BTU/h air conditioning system to keep the enclosed bridge and internal spaces climate-controlled during high-stress deployments.

Helm operations are directed from a command bridge equipped with an advanced navigation pack centered on a large 16-inch multi-function display (MFD). This infrastructure is completely integrated via an NMEA2000 backbone with a VHF DSC radio, AIS-B++, a 4 kW radar system, an autopilot, and a 1 kW sonar. Standard legally mandated maritime safety, navigation, and global communications gear completes the build, including a masthead light, stern light, sidelights, a magnetic compass, a sound signaling device, a VHF radio, emergency flares, navigation charts, a GPS/chartplotter, AIS, radar, a depth sounder, and full GMDSS infrastructure. In accordance with KND’s standard technical documentation, these preliminary parameters represent concept-level estimates that remain subject to final design development and detailed engineering modifications
